How to Discern the Presence of the Holy Spirit (The Top Thirteen Ways)

 

Loved one in Christ Jesus, I believe you are growing in the strength of the Lord.  One important truth you must know in life is that people will resist and oppose you when you decide to follow Christ Jesus.

It is one of the crosses you must carry as a Christian believer. Christ Jesus faced opposition when He walked on earth as a man. He promised us (Christian believers) that we would also face opposition from the world because we are His followers (See John 16:33, Matthew 10:22).

In his letters to Timothy, Apostle Paul emphasized that Christian believers will suffer persecution (See 2 Timothy 3:12). You can read my series of articles, The Adventures on the road to the Celestial City, for more profound revelations.

Understanding the adventures on the road to the Celestial City (Heaven) will empower you to walk through the storms of life. The storms of life will build your spiritual muscles and sharpen you to walk in divine power.

Any Christian believer that does not face opposition from the unbelievers and “professed Christian believers” has missed the path of Christ Jesus. As long as you walk faithfully on the path of Christ Jesus, you will encounter opposition from the world.

Doing the work of God will attract enemies. Some people will falsely accuse you, oppose you, insult you, and desire your downfall, but you are victorious with Christ Jesus on your side. We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus!

One thing about the devil is that he will not disturb you much if you are his prisoner. Walking in the path of Christ Jesus makes you his target. The devil and his minions will do anything in their power to bring you down if you don’t build yourself in the Lord (Meditate on Ephesians 6:10-18).

Before something happens in your life, the Holy Spirit will reveal unto you through dreams, visions, trance, friends, the Word and spiritual leaders. One thing I have realized in life is that I don't allow the arrows (fear, false gossip, false accusation, manipulations and oppositions) of the devil and his agent to dominate me.

I have trained myself in the spirit to counterattack the arrows of the enemy. By God’s grace and the knowledge available to me, I can discern the leading of the Holy Spirit and the wiles of the devil.

The Holy Spirit always alerts me of impending danger so I can position myself. The Holy Spirit is the best spiritual leader you can ever have in life because He knows the dealings of God’s kingdom.

He can direct your path if you allow Him in your life. The Holy Spirit can help you walk in the Spirit if you open your heart unto Him. No devil, demon, satanic agent and evil spirits can devour you if you hide under the umbrella of Christ Jesus.

When the Holy Spirit dominates your spiritual life, you will not struggle to live a victorious Christian life. In my previous articles, I gave out some keys to help you activate the presence of the Holy Spirit. In this article, I will enumerate some keys you can use to discern the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Knowing these signs will increase your faith and empower you to serve in the house of God. Experiencing the presence of the Holy Spirit is one of the most blissful seasons in your Christian life.

 

1.  You will hear and feel a sound like a mighty rushing wind occupying your jurisdiction.

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Acts 2:1-2 KJV

The disciples of Christ Jesus encountered the Holy Spirit at the Jewish feast as they waited in the upper room. The Holy Spirit came from heaven like a mighty rushing wind. He filled them within the building.

This means the Holy Spirit travels like a sound and reveals Himself as a mighty wind. Anytime you experience a sound that resembles a strong rushing wind in the season of prayer, worship and fasting, the Holy Spirit is present.

 

2. You will sense some fire in your spirit, soul and body.

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:3-4 KJV

The Holy Spirit appeared as a cloven of tongues like fire and sat upon the disciples of Christ Jesus. Anytime you feel some fire in any part of your body, the Holy Spirit is present. Most often, the Holy Spirit does that to revive you in the spirit.

 

3. You will see the light from the spiritual or earthly realm anytime the Holy Spirit manifests Himself.

And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,

And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutes thou me?

And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

Acts 9:1-5 KJV

In my previous article, I explained that Christ Jesus is the Holy Spirit. When Paul encountered Christ Jesus on his way to Damascus (to persecute Jesus disciples), a light came from heaven and disrupted his path. This means that seeing the light in the heavenly realm is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Meditate on these Holy Scriptures.

The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.

Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.

A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.

The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

Psalms 94:1-5 KJV

 

4. If you live in sin, you will tremble in fear when the Holy Spirit manifests His presence.

And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Acts 9:6 KJV

In verse six of Acts chapter nine, Saul (Jewish name of Apostle Paul) trembled (became fearful) when the Holy Spirit revealed Himself, so anytime you feel a sharp fear in your heart, it can be a sign of the Holy Spirit.

Other times too, demons can project fear in your presence. The difference between godly and ungodly fear is that godly fear leads to repentance, while ungodly fear leads to destruction. Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

5. You will hear an invisible voice when the Holy Spirit manifests Himself.

And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

Acts 9:7 KJV

You can become speechless when the Holy Spirit manifests His presence. Other times too, you can hear invisible voices. Most often, it is a signal of the Holy Spirit. Saul’s men experienced the Holy Spirit and heard Saul (Paul) replying to a voice, but they did not see Him.

This means in God's presence; you will experience some invisible voices. Don't think you are going mad or you are experiencing schizophrenia when you hear hidden voices. The voice of the Holy Spirit is authoritative, and it agrees with the Word of God.

I heard a silent voice in my spirit in one of my prayers ordering me to sow a seed (money) to the first prophet who anointed me with oil. After hearing the voice, I felt peace and a conviction in my inner man that the Holy Spirit spoke to me.  I obeyed the voice of the Holy Spirit and reaped the blessings.

 

6. You receive divine protection when the Holy Spirit manifests His presence.

Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the ames of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the _re? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the _re, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the _re.

And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

Daniel 3:21-27 KJV

Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold and commanded the people of Babylon to bow before it, but three noblemen (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) decided not to bow to the idol because they believe in the God of Israel.  

When Nebuchadnezzar cast these three men into the burning furnace, the Lord protected them from destruction. It was the presence of the Holy Spirit that covered the three Jewish men from the blazing furnace.

Hungry lions could not devour Daniel because of God's presence. In the presence of the Holy Spirit, you will feel inner and external protection. The size of your enemies will not threaten you when the Holy Spirit is with you.

 

7. You will feel worthy in the divine righteousness and unworthy of your righteousness in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

Revelation 1:17 KJV

When John encountered Christ Jesus (Holy Spirit), He fell at His feet like a dead man. When the Holy Spirit touches you, your fear vanishes. In the presence of the Holy Spirit, you feel unworthy. You feel the power and glory of God’s righteousness anytime the Holy Spirit manifests Himself. Meditate on this Holy Scripture.  

For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place.

1 Chronicles 16:26-27 KJV

 

8. You will feel some shakings in your jurisdiction when the Holy Spirit manifests His presence.

And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Acts 4:31 KJV

One signal of the Holy Spirit is that He comes with power. This power shakes your surroundings. In some churches, they always experience some spiritual forces shaking the place. Anytime you experience shaking in your body and atmosphere whiles praying, the Holy Spirit is manifesting Himself. 

 

9. Wicked people face God's wrath when the Holy Spirit manifests His presence.

Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.

As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the _re, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

Psalms 68:1-2 KJV

Anytime the Holy Spirit reveals Himself, wicked people, corrupt countries, and corrupt organizations receive divine judgment. Have you realized why some nations experience a flood, hurricane, and other natural disasters?

Unexplained natural disasters are signs of punishment from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit reveals Himself through natural disasters to punish the unrepentant wicked. Meditate on these Holy Scriptures.

Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might ow down at thy presence,

As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!

When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains owed down at thy presence.

Isaiah 64:1-3 KJV

I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

Psalms 9:1-3 KJV

The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein

Nahum 1:5 KJV

 

10. You will feel some refreshment in your spirit, soul and body anytime the Holy Spirit manifests His presence.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

Acts 3:19 KJV

Anytime the Holy Spirit reveals Himself in your jurisdiction, He strengthens your faith in Christ Jesus and His Word.  The Holy Spirit increases your hope in the Lord. In His presence, you experience an unexplained joy, peace and power. Meditate on this Holy Scripture.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Acts 16:11 KJV

 

11. You will always feel unworthy anytime the Holy Spirit manifests His presence.

And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

Genesis 3:8 KJV

 

You will always hide if you are living in sin anytime the Holy Spirit reveals Himself. Like Adam and his wife, they hid from the presence of the LORD because sin dominated them. This is one reason people give up on the church when they enter into sin. Sin is the enemy of the Holy Spirit, so anytime the Holy Spirit reveals Himself, the evil in you hides.

 

12. You will always feel comfortable and calm when the Holy Spirit is with you.

And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.

Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

Exodus 33:12-14 KJV

Moses desired the presence of the Holy Spirit because of the state of the Israelites. God promised Moses that He would give him rest (peace) because of His presence. Remember that in the presence of the Holy Spirit, there is an atmosphere of peace and comfortability.

 

13. Creation expresses itself in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein.

Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.

1 Chronicles 16:32-33 KJV

Have you ever felt the trees, the sea and other creations of God express some sounds in your jurisdiction? Anytime you see, hear or feel nature rejoicing or exhibiting some signs, the Holy Spirit is expressing Himself.
