How to live a victorious Christian life (7 Master Keys to Overcoming Besetting Sins)
The Case of Kwame Isaac Obiri
It’s been six months since
Kwame Isaac Obiri complained of his
anger, fornication, and disobedience. Kwame
Isaac Obiri has tried several times to overcome fornication, anger, and
disobedience.
However, he keeps exhibiting
those virtues and attitudes unconsciously. Out of desperation, Kwame Isaac Obiri decided to visit a
wise man in a remote village. He knew the wise man could help him because many
people struggling from unholy anger, fornication, pride, lust, bitterness, and
grave evils have become calm, forgiving, loving, and obedient after their
visitation.
Kwame
Isaac Obiri said that if that wise man could help
people, he was the right person to solve my problems. Early morning, Kwame Isaac Obiri boarded a car to the
wise man’s village. When Kwame Isaac
Obiri reached the wise man’s village, he asked some children about the
exact location of the wise man’s hut.
However, the children
couldn’t help him. One thing that struck Kwame
Isaac Obiri was that he had forgotten the wise man’s name. He tried his
best to find the wise man. However, he couldn’t. Out of frustration, he
returned to his hometown in anger.
One mistake Kwame Isaac Obiri made when he reached the
wise man’s village was his anger toward the children. When the people saw Kwame
Isaac Obiri's anger, they decided not to show him the wise man’s hut.
So you see how Kwame Isaac Obiri missed his deliverance.
Because of his unholy anger, he couldn’t get to the wise man’s house. As far as
the unholy anger rest in Kwame Isaac
Obiri’s heart, he will continue to live in his besetting sin (prison).
Searching for the answer to besetting sin
Maybe you have some
besetting sin. You have tried your best to come out from that sin. However, you
cannot. You have visited the best counselors, experts, and therapists. However,
the besetting sin keeps emerging.

can come out from every besetting sin! The wisdom keys (principles) I’m about
to share will help you come out from every besetting sin. You will not struggle
to live a victorious Christian life after reading and applying the principles

Seven Ways to Deal with Besetting Sins
1. Get rid of bad association
Friends have an impact on
our lives. The Holy Bible states that evil communication corrupts good manners.
Your association can corrupt or build you. If you are struggling with a
besetting sin, check your circles to which you open your heart to control you.
The words they speak unto you impact your soul.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that
love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Proverbs 18:21 KJV
One thing about words is
that they affect our souls. Like food and water, they quench our hunger. When
someone hits you with a cane, you feel the pain in your body. In the same way, words
touch our souls.
When your soul receives
negative words, it creates a philosophy in the subconscious brain. Those words
can become your ideologies, mindset, and beliefs. This is one reason; you must
get rid of unrepentant evil friends.
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what
fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath
light with darkness?
And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that
believeth with an infidel?
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the
temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk
in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord,
and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters,
saith the Lord Almighty.

You will keep swimming in
the river of sin until you get rid of unrepentant bad friends. Your besetting
sin will strengthen if you don’t disengage from bad associations. Their evil
words will rekindle your soul.
Their evil words will
open the portal for evil spirits to manipulate you. Maybe you are a bookworm. If
you don’t get rid of ungodly and uninspired books, the besetting sin will not
stop. Books have a significant impact on our lives.
If you want to live a victorious Christian life, eliminate erotic books because they can push you to engage in unethical activities. Maybe you love videos.
- What kind of videos do you watch?
- Do you enjoy porn videos?
- Do you love romantic movies?
To overcome besetting
sins and live a victorious Christian life, stop watching movies that draw you
away from God. I am very choosy when selecting movies. Before I watch a movie
or video, I analyze it.
I often ask myself, what
lessons will I get from the movie or video? If that movie or video does not
educate me morally, intellectually, and spiritually, I will not watch it. Once in
a while, I watch funny movies.
However, I don’t watch fun
movies loaded with erotic scenes. Get rid of erotic and demon-inspired videos
if you want to overcome besetting sins. Some people, too, have become friends
with music.
One thing you must know
about music is that it affects our souls. Listening to music sung by ungodly
people can negatively impact you. Listening to erotic songs can also lead you
to evil activities (meditate on 1 Samuel 16:23).
Get rid of ungodly
friends, groups, books, videos, and songs to live a victorious Christian life. Connect
with godly videos, books, songs, and friends that educate you morally,
psychologically, and spiritually. You will not struggle with besetting sin if
you apply this wisdom key. You will live a victorious Christian life if you
apply the wisdom keys.
2. Connect with the right seed
If you want to break the
chains of besetting sin and live a victorious Christian life, connect with
godly people who are born again. I mean people who have repented and accepted
Christ Jesus as their Savior and Lord of their lives. Equally yoking with born-again
people creates a godly soul tie. With this holy soul tie, your love for God
increases.
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his
friend.
Proverbs 27:17 KJV
If you want your love for
God to increase, connect with people who love God from their hearts.
If you want to grow in
the Word of God, connect with people who love the Holy Bible.
To become prayerful,
connect with people who love fasting and prayers.
If you want to be
spiritual, connect with people who have the fruits and gifts of the Holy
Spirit. I mean people who exhibit the Holy Spirit's nine fruits and seven gifts.
If you want to live in
the holiness of the Holy Spirit, connect with people who have dedicated their
entire lives to living for God and the church.
Through that connection,
a positive transformation will take place in your life. Your besetting sin will
depreciate whiles your righteousness will appreciate.
3. Build an evangelistic lifestyle
From my experience, this
is one of the best keys to living a victorious Christian life. If you preach
and teach the gospel in your circles (school, workplace, community, and
public), you will be careful with your lifestyle.
Preaching and teaching
the gospel help you check yourself. When you preach to others, they will
observe your life. You will become a light unto the people you preach to. Some
people will monitor your lifestyle to see whether you follow your teachings.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 KJV
Let others know about
Christ Jesus through your words and actions. You will be surprised that you
will start monitoring your life. You will see to it that you don’t break your
words. If you preach the truth, lead others to Christ Jesus, and constantly
preach holiness, righteousness, and salvation messages, you will police
yourself.
4. Disconnect from corrupt environments
To break the seal of
besetting sins, you must vacate evil surroundings. Your surroundings have a
significant effect on your Christian life. If the people in your workplace work
wickedly, you will likely join them.
If the people in your
school hate the things of God and enjoy evil, you are likely to join them. If
the people in your community enjoy sin, you will likely join them. One thing
you must know about your surrounding is that it has spiritual principalities
and princes (meditate on Ephesians 6:12).
If your surrounding has a
strong evil presence, the atmosphere becomes corrupt and conducive to sinful
activities and demons. This is one reason some communities keep repeating
specific evil. If you are not strong in the Lord, you cannot break the hostile
atmosphere in such places.
Even if you are strong in
the Lord, it will affect you if you don’t dominate the atmosphere with prayer. If
you think you cannot dominate the evil surrounding with the power of God,
vacate that place.
Sometimes the people in
that place can resist your presence. You can try to help them. However, they
will reject your help. You cannot help people who don’t need your help. Vacate
places that oppose the things of God.
If you have tried your
best to help the people. However, if the people keep resisting you, vacate the
place before you become a prisoner to sin and evil spirits (see Matthew 8:28-34,
Luke 8:26-37, Mark 5:1-18).
5. Build a consistent fasting and prayer life
One master key to breaking
the chain of besetting sin is to build a Spirit-led fasting and prayer life.
Build a consistent fasting and prayer life to live a victorious Christian life.
From my experience, fasting and prayers work wonders.
Fasting and prayer can
sometimes become burdensome. However, the Holy Spirit can give you grace if you
decide to fast and pray. Initially, you may struggle and experience hunger with
fasting and prayers.
However, as you continue
fasting and praying, it becomes part of your life. By God’s grace, fasting and
prayers have become part of my life. Since I became a strong Christian, there
is no week that I do not fast and pray.
Almost every week, I fast
and pray for at least one day as led by the Holy Spirit. The more we fast and
pray, we build our spiritual muscles. When we fast and pray, we dominate the
spiritual realm.
Some invisible forces
will not bow until we fast and pray (meditate on Mark 9:29). As Christ Jesus
said, “We should watch and pray lest we
fall into temptation.” You are swimming in the ocean of sin because you
don’t have a consistent prayer and fasting life. Try fasting and prayers. You
will see the wonders!
6. Fellowship with the Word
Living a victorious
Christian life without the Word of God is like a bird trying to fly with one
feather (wing). Living a victorious Christian life without the Word of God is
like a one-legged man running a ten thousand-meter race who is supposed to
finish in five minutes.
A bird cannot fly
successfully with one wing (feather). A one-legged man cannot complete a
ten-thousand-meter race in five minutes. In the same way, you cannot live a
victorious Christian life without the Word of God.
You need the Holy Bible
because it is your spiritual strength. You need air to survive. You need food
and water to survive on earth. In the same way, you need the Holy Bible to
survive in your Christian life.
Without the Word of God,
you cannot grow spiritually (see 1 Peter 2:2). The more you feed on the Word,
your spiritual senses become sharp. When you become one with the Word, you will
not struggle to connect with the Holy Spirit and angelic beings.
The more you feed on the
Word, it transforms you into the image of Christ Jesus. If you are struggling
with a besetting sin, break it with the Word of God. When the Word of God
enters your soul, it repairs every damage of the enemy (meditate on Hebrews
4:12, Jeremiah 23:29).
You might have received the
wrong information. That information might have created a dark stronghold and
evil philosophies. You need the Word of God to format those ideologies. You
need the Word of God to reprogram your mind.
It doesn’t matter how
damaged the mind is; when the Word of God enters, it repairs it. It doesn’t
matter how corrupt the mind is; when the Word of God enters it, it cleanses
every virus the devil and evil people have planted.
Your parents, school, friends,
enemies, social media, community, and “church” might have corrupted your mind
with destructive beliefs, ideologies, and superstitious information. I have
good news for you. The Word of God can destroy those negative strongholds. You
have to feed on the Word, obey the Word, and pray the Word (meditate on Romans
12:2).
7. Create a strong connection with the Deliverer
The ultimate master key
to breaking every besetting sin is to repent from your sins and accept Christ
Jesus as the Savior and Lord of your life. After making Christ Jesus your
Savior and Lord of your life, create a strong relationship and fellowship with
the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is our
helper. He knows our weakness (see Romans 8:26). The more you fellowship with
the Holy Spirit, he takes your weakness and builds his seeds in you (see
Galatians 5:22-23).
One way to fellowship
with the Holy Spirit is through songs. I mean spiritual songs (biblical and
anointed) sung by a born-again Christian believer. Another way to fellowship
with the Holy Spirit is to pray in tongues.
You can even sing in
tongues. The more you worship and praise God from your heart, the stronger your
relationship with the Holy Spirit. Your besetting sins fall when your
relationship and fellowship with the Holy Spirit strengthens.

Spirit, your desire for the things of God grows.
Like a seed, when you
plant it in fertile soil, you must water it. The seed must receive sunlight and
protection from weeds. If the seed does not receive water, sunlight, and
protection from weeds, it will die.
That is how the Christian
life works. When you fellowship with the Holy Spirit, he supplies you (the
seed) with water and sunlight. The Holy Spirit will protect you from the weeds
when you become one with the Word.
Follow these master keys,
and you will not struggle with besetting sins. You will live a victorious
