DIMENSIONS OF THE HOLY SPIRITS 1

Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And THE SPIRIT OF GOD MOVED UPON THE FACE OF THE WATERS.

In this article, I will share with you the personality of the Holy Spirit. Every Christian must understand that without the Holy Spirit, life on earth will be full of disaster and insecurity. God knows that mankind cannot complete his purpose without the Holy Spirit; that is why He sent Him to lead us in our journey of life.

It is like a house without a foundation. When the wind blows, the house will break. We need the Holy Spirit in our foundation so that when the storms of life feature itself in our lives, we will not remain captive.

Living with someone without knowing his or her personality is dangerous because you will be ignorant of his ways and acts. For example, if you know that a close friend of yours becomes happy when you buy him an apple, won’t you buy him or her apples all the time to make the person smiling? When your friend is happy, he may do what you tell him to do. That is how the Holy Spirit operates. We must know the personalities of the Holy Spirit to enable Him to work with us. Let me share with you some characters of the Holy Spirit.

  1. The Holy Spirit strives with sinners.

Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My SPIRIT SHALL NOT ALWAYS STRIVE WITH MAN, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

The Spirit of God contends with sinners because His holiness rejects the acts of sin. One trait of Jesus Christ is that He is Holy. Holiness means perfect. God is perfect in character, attitude, righteousness, beauty, love, power, justice, and all other positive virtues. This means that God cannot comply with sin. It is only by the grace of God that He accepts us in our weakness.

2. The Holy Spirit reproves when we walk outside God’s will.

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
John 16:8 And when he is come, HE WILL REPROVE THE WORLD OF SIN, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
John 16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
John 16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
John 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

  • The Holy Spirit rebukes us of sin through our hearts, the sermons, and books of servants of God, dreams, and through other mediums.
  • The Holy Spirit reminds us of God’s standards of righteousness in the Word.
  • The Holy Spirit reminds us of God’s judgment through visions, trance, dreams, the Word, and through His servants.
  • The Holy Spirit rebukes us when we are about disobeying the Word of God.
  • The Holy Spirit rebukes us after we disobey the Word of God to enable us to repent.

3. The Holy Spirit helps our weakness, so we don’t fall.

Romans 8:26  Likewise THE SPIRIT ALSO HELPETH OUR INFIRMITIES: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

The Holy Spirit assists us when we are weak in the flesh. He knows our temperament, personality, character flaws, and He will help us become strong Christians when we call on Him and fellowship with Him. He knows there is some sickness caused by demons. The Holy Spirit desires to break and heal our disease if we act on the Word.

4. The Holy Spirit teaches the truth to Christians

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, HE SHALL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The Holy Spirit is the best teacher of the Word because He is the author. Holy men wrote the Holy Bible by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. People blow air into the lungs of a dying person to enable the person to receive life. The air empowers the person to acquire strength. The Holy Spirit breathed wisdom and revelation into the men, and they received illumination to write the scriptures (See 2 Timothy 3:16).

The best person to interpret the Word is the Holy Spirit because He is the brain behind the scriptures. Everyone has a style of writing. The author knows and understands what he has written because he wrote it. If you don’t understand what the author has written, contact the author because he is the best person to explain to you what he has written.

The same principle applies to the Word. The Holy Spirit can teach the Word because He allowed fishermen, kings, Priest, Gentiles, Jews, and men to write the Holy Bible. God has ordained ministers of God to explain the Word through books and sermons. The Holy Spirit teaches through His servants, therefore, humble yourself and learn from the teachings of His servants. You can meditate on the Word for a more profound revelation. Ask the Holy Spirit to explain to you the Word.

5. The Holy Spirit guides Christians in the journey of life
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

A shepherd guides his sheep from the attacks of the wolves. Parents supervise their children in life because they are immature to lead themselves. We need light in the darkness to enable us to see in the light. We need water and food to quench our thirst and hunger, so do all Christians need the Holy Spirit for guidance. The Holy Spirit is the perfect guide to every believer in Christ Jesus.

Without the Holy Spirit, we will fall into the permissive or imperfect will of God. We need the Holy Spirit in all situations because He knows the future. He can show us the way. He knows the plans of God for our lives. Prophets confirm to you what the Holy Spirit has told you. Sometimes the Holy Spirit may reveal some things to you. At this stage, you are unsure of what the Holy Spirit showed to you because you are immature to verify the voice of the Holy Spirit. This is the stage you need a prophet to confirm what the Holy Spirit showed you.

The Holy Spirit directs us, so we do not make mistakes in life. There are some errors we cannot correct, and it takes the Holy Spirit to settle them. The Holy Spirit will guide us to know the will of God for our lives because He is a guide. The Holy Spirit is our personal Prophet because He sees the future.

6. The Holy Spirit comforts us in our journey of life.

Acts 9:31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, AND IN THE COMFORT OF THE HOLY GHOST, were multiplied.

There are seasons in life. Our loved ones may die in an hour we never expected. Close friends may reject us the moment we need them most. Trusted relatives may ignore and despise us in times of challenges. This is the time we have to get close to the Holy Spirit because He encourages us when we feel like giving up.

He advises us when we don’t know what to do. He fills us with hope when all hope is lost. He restores us to the Heavenly Father when we feel like giving up. He empowers us when we are going through trials and afflictions. The Holy Spirit shines in our life when darkness tries to dominate us.

7. The Holy Spirit can be angry by our actions

Isaiah 63:10 But they rebelled, AND VEXED HIS HOLY SPIRIT: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.

The Israelites rebel against the Lord and worshipped gods made with hands. This made the Holy Spirit angry. This should make you understand that the Holy Spirit can become angry when we willfully disobey God’s Word. It is our responsibility to honour God’s Word by walking in the footsteps of the Word because the Word is the pathway to God.

The Word is a light to all Christians because we live in a dark world surrounded by unreasonable wicked men and women who desire to eliminate us at all costs. When we willfully rebel against God’s Word, the Holy Spirit becomes vexed.

  • The Holy Spirit feels pain when we disobey the directions of God.
  • The Holy Spirit becomes hurt when we resist the plans of God for our lives.
  • The Holy Spirit worries when we disengage with the vision, He has given us.
  • The Holy Spirit becomes bitter when we provoke other Christians to backslide.
  • The Holy Spirit becomes our enemy when we submit to the plans of the devil.
